Displaying a SharePoint list in another site

Today I had to find a way to display a SharePoint list in another site.  It turns out that within the UI you can only add SharePoint lists that exist in the same site collection.  But you can still add a list from another site collection – you just have to use SharePoint Designer and the steps as outlined by Jackie Bodline here:

I tried it and it worked great!  The only problem was, some fields in a task list (such as “Assigned To” and “Description”) could not be added.
